Knutsford Christmas Weekend

2nd and 3rd December 2023

Knutsford is the place to be at Christmas time! There is a whole host of festive events that take place in Knutsford during the Christmas period and it all starts with the Knutsford Christmas Weekend – two days of events when the Christmas lights are turned on.

A highlight of the Christmas Weekend for many children (and adults too!) is the seeing Santa arrive and come through the Town on his sleigh before heading into Canute Place to say hello to his fans! You can watch the parade on King Street and Minshull Street at 5pm on the Saturday of the Christmas Weekend ahead of the big Christmas Light Switch On at 6pm!

Watch as the Mayor of Knutsford is joined by Santa and special guests to light up Knutsford for the festive season! The switch on is preceded by an afternoon of live entertainment from local musicians, dance troupes, performers and choirs kicking off at 1pm before the big switch on at 6pm! The switch on is typically held on the Saturday of the Christmas Weekend.

Knutsford Christmas Market is the staple event of the festive programme in Knutsford, bringing over 120 of the area’s finest traders together, offering a selection of artisan food, drink, art, crafts and special gifts! The market also features Santa’s Grotto, live entertainment, a funfair and plenty of festive feeling!

The town’s Christmas Crib is blessed, and a selection of Carols are sang as part of the Crib Service. The service is led by the local churches with an introduction from the Mayor. The Crib Service is held by the town Crib which is located on Princess Street opposite the Lost and Found.

The Crib Service is usually held the weekend following the Knutsford Christmas Market; it pairs with the Lantern Parade in its bi-annual feature and is hosted as a sole event on the intermittent years.

The bi-annual Lantern Parade offers a chance for Knutsford children to take part in lantern making workshops and then join in our evening parade through Knutsford Town Centre where we light up the town with specially made lanterns. The parade proceeds up King Street through to Princess Street where the parade joins the Mayor’s Crib Service which follows shortly after with Christmas carols and lots of festive spirit!

The Lantern Parade will return in 2023.
