ABOUT KNUTSFORD MARKET HALL
Knutsford Market Hall was built in 1964 and since then has been trading from the same central location on Silk Mill Street as a traditional market hall. It’s home to several traders, many of whom are Knutsford born and bred.
The market is open every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8am to 4pm with many of the stalls opening on each Makers Market Sunday and for the Knutsford Christmas Markets. All the traders are easy to contact outside of these hours if you are looking to order online, arrange a delivery or collection. This means the market offers both 21st century convenience alongside traditional customer service. For further details visit www.knutsfordmarket.co.uk and check out each traders’ page.
REDEVELOPMENT
We took ownership of the Market Hall from Cheshire East Council in 2014 and recognise that it is in need of investment to ensure its ongoing viability. We initially looked to redevelop the Market Hall as a two-storey market, but on the advice of a 2017 survey this was discounted. We then began looking at options to improve the Market Hall, initially looking at a simpler programme of refurbishment but on after speaking with architects, we realised that the site had great potential to provide much needed residential accommodation.
Our proposal is to demolish the existing building creating a new ground floor Market Hall with apartments on the first and second floors. We’ll be providing a temporary trading space to ensure that all the market traders can continue in business throughout the works and be the first traders in the new Market Hall. The next stage of our project is to determine the exact costs of the development and prepare the business case.
