The Mayor’s Cadet is chosen annually from the Air Training Corps, Army Cadets, Fire and Rescue Cadets, Scouts or Guides. The Council invites the Commanding Officer or Leader of the various groups to nominate candidates each February. The Deputy Mayor reviews the nominations and meets the candidates with a view to appointing and swearing in the new Cadet at Mayor Making in May. The Cadet is presented with a badge of office. The Mayor’s Cadets duties will be:
- Attendance at Mayor Making.
- Participation in Mayoral Processions/Civic Service.
- Participation in the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Services.
- Other occasions as requested by the Town Mayor. It is anticipated opportunities will arise to attend (with the Mayor) a wide variety of local cultural and community events, including those of other local towns and civic dignitaries.
