Mayor of Knutsford’s 100 Mile Cycle Tour Raises over £2,000!

The Mayor and Mayoress of Knutsford have raised over £2,000 having completed an epic 100 mile cycle tour of Cheshire East this Saturday (21st). Cllr Andrew Malloy and his wife Nicole undertook the challenge to raise funds for Knutsford youth sports and a new skate park for Knutsford.

The sun shone as they visited 16 Cheshire towns and villages, meeting representatives of the local councils as they cycled through. They were joined on the ride by Cllr Suzie Akers Smith, Cheshire East Council’s Cycle and Walking Champion, along with Melissa Reddy, Andy Coatsworth and Simon Crump.

The cycle tour was a key part of Andrew’s theme for his year as Town Mayor of promoting and supporting health living and leisure activities for the youth of Knutsford.  His aim is to encourage and support physical activity, whether that be walking, running, cycling, swimming, football, tennis, cricket or anything else.  Andrew also aims to establish a starter fund for a skate park.

The cycle ride was sponsored by Tatton Group, Bruntwood and Bikes n Gear and along the ride Cllr Malloy was delighted to receive a donation of £250 from Sunrise of Mobberley and £100 from So Cheshire, who greeted them at the end of the ride in Knutsford.

Andrew set up a JustGiving page to enable residents to sponsor the ride and, alongside offline donations and sponsorship, has now raised over £2,000.

Andrew said: “Thank you to each Mayor, Chairman and councillor who welcomed us to their patch along the ride and to Knutsford Tri Club who joined us from Wilmslow to Dean Row, and the Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club who joined us from Alsager to Nantwich.

But most of all, thanks to the cyclists who did the entire ride with my wife and I; Simon, Andy, Suzie and Melissa; we could not have completed this epic journey without their support.”

Along the route Cllr Malloy met with:

  • Cllr Janet Cookson, Chairman, Mobberley Parish Council
  • Cllr Mike Dudley-Jones, Chairman, Alderley Edge Parish Council
  • Cllr Martin Watkins, Chairman, Wilmslow Parish Council

Town Mayor’s Fundraising BBQ a Sizzling Success Despite the Rain!

Mayor of Knutsford Cllr Andrew Malloy hosted a fundraising BBQ on Friday night to raise money to support the Mayor’s fundraising and 2nd Knutsford Scouts. The Mayor’s fundraising this year is raising money for a Skate Park project in Knutsford and supporting local charitable community sports groups promoting youth activity.

Over 60 guests and families braved the rain for the BBQ kindly prepared and served by 2nd Knutsford Scouts.  All the meat, fruit and vegetables came from Edwards and Emmess Butchers and Jonty’s Fruit & Veg in Knutsford Market Hall.  The beer from Tatton Brewery went down well on the bar and the guests still drank Pimms despite the grey skies!

Cllr Andrew Malloy said: “I am delighted to have been able to raise over £540 at my first fundraising event. A big thank you to 2nd Knutsford Scouts who manned the BBQ with a team of fantastic volunteers (both young and old!).  Thank you also to the Deputy Mayor of Cheshire East and the Mayor of Crewe for attending and to my Deputy Cllr Stewart Gardiner for your help on the night.”

The Mayor’s next fundraising event is a Spanish night at Evuna, taking place on Tuesday 10th September. Tickets are £23 and available from Mayor’s PA Annabel Irvine (01565 653 929).
