Mayor’s Ball raises £5,200

Knutsfordians and Knutsford businesses showed their true generosity for the Mayor’s Charity Ball, “Rock with the Mayor”, kindly sponsored by Wright Marshall Fine Arts, on Saturday 21 March at Leicester Warren Hall at which just under £5,200 was raised for the Mayor’s charity, Knutsford GROW, and good cause, St John’s Wood Lunch Club.

Entertainment, sponsored by Fisher German, was in abundance as guests were treated to a Bucks Fizz (not the band) reception, provided by Leicester Warren Hall, in the Lodge Room whilst Cllr Peter Raynes played a selection of rock tunes on the cello. Sadly, the Opera singer could not make it to the Ball; however, the legendary Peter Murray, of On the Pulse of Perfumery, who was MC for the evening, delighted everyone with an impromptu performance of his own!

After a delicious dinner from the excellent chefs at Leicester Warren Hall, guests battled it out on in the auctions with some amazing prizes donated by Tatton Estate Management, Pictographs, On the Pulse of Perfumery, Ravenair Flight Simulation, The Portly Grocer, The Mere Golf Resort & Spa, La La Spa and Wendy Diddams Opticians. With over 40 prizes to win on the raffle, the winner of the first prize is looking forward to a luxurious night of dinner, bed and breakfast, kindly donated by Cottons Hotel.

Entertainment continued with South Manchester rock band, The Guvners, playing a wide selection of rock and swing numbers, whilst some guests drove for their lives in the McLaren simulator – with the winner getting to ride around Cheshire in a McLaren 650S!

PA to the Mayor, Clare Stuart West, said: “The generosity of Knutsford businesses will never cease to amaze me! Thank you to everyone who donated the fabulous raffle and auction prizes and to all of the sponsors who made such a difference to the grand sum raised on the evening.”

“My thanks also go to everyone who helped to make the Ball such a success – all the team at Event Buddha for another spectacular display, Pictographs for the photography, Joanne at White Orchid Floral Boutique for the beautiful floral displays, Kate and all the team at Leicester Warren Hall for an amazing dinner and excellent service. Last but definitely not least, ‘Mr Entertainment’ himself – Peter at On the Pulse of Perfumery for his incredible MC and auctioneering talent!”

Beneficiaries of the Mayor’s charity are Knutsford GROW and St John’s Wood Lunch Club. Knutsford GROW, assist those who are unable to tend their gardens through age, infirmity, illness or disability in addition to providing a community service in a supportive environment, with access to training. St John’s Wood Lunch Club provides senior citizens from Knutsford and the surrounding areas with a warm lunch and a chance to socialise and play games twice a week.
