Sharp eyed Knutsfordians may have spotted a number of orange bikes popping up across Knutsford thanks to Knutsford Retailers Group ‘Knutsford One’. The bikes which have been allocated to various businesses’ and community groups are to be decorated to welcome the Tour of Britain to Knutsford on Tuesday 6th September when the race visits the Town TWICE!
The bikes which were donated by Cheshire East Council and Knutsford residents have been transformed into their bright orange state by Cheshire Autobody based on Longridge. Kind hearted owner Jonathan Flatman, was approached by Knutsford One and the specialist prestige, classic and sports car body and paint repairs business was more than happy to get involved to promote the event and the Town.
Jonathan said “We had heard about collection of old bikes to be used for display to support the Tour of Britain passing through Knutsford and were delighted when we were contacted to ask if we could help by spraying them.”
“This isn’t our usual line of work but we have really enjoyed being part of the community spirit that has seen local businesses pull together to collect, paint and get these bikes on display around the town. The bright orange bikes look amazing and are brightening up numerous points along the Tour of Britain stage. We have even been approached by individuals wanting bikes painting to display outside their own property; you get a real feeling that the whole of Knutsford is proud to be supporting the event.”
Nicky Hutton of Gusto Knutsford who is a member of Knutsford One and part of the team co-ordinating this project added “We are so grateful to Cheshire Autobody for their help with this project; it would have taken a long time to get the bikes sprayed had it not been for them offering to help out.”
Town Clerk and Town Centre Manager, Adam Keppel-Garner praised the business community for working together to achieve the project, he said “It’s wonderful to see the businesses working together to welcome the Tour of Britain to the Town in style. The Trail is creating a real buzz on social media and is a great addition for residents and visitors to Knutsford to enjoy.”
