Knutsford Neighbourhood Plan
Referendum (Vote Day) : 14th March 2019
Neighbourhood Plan Documents
In 2014, the Town Council held a public meeting on the idea of creating a Neighbourhood Development Plan. This followed the power to create these new statutory planning documents being introduced by the Government in 2011. The plan will sit alongside the Cheshire East Local Plan to guide development in Knutsford through to 2030 and has been developed by a committee of councillors and volunteer residents, supported by over 100 volunteers in numerous working groups.
A survey was undertaken in 2016 to gather the key issues for the plan and this was followed by consultation in 2017 on the emerging policies. Professional planners were brought on board to help ensure that it complied with planning law and in May 2018 we hand-delivered a summary document to every household inviting the community to review the draft plan. This plan truly has the community’s voice embedded throughout.
The plan was then subject to statutory consultation (with the likes of Historic England, Natural England etc) and put to examination by a planning expert. The examination resulted in a few minor changes and we are pleased the plan now goes to referendum.
The plan covers the following subjects:
- Community and Education Infrastructure
- Employment and Retail
- Health and Wellbeing
- Sports and Leisure
- Town Centre
- Traffic, Transport and Movement
The referendum on its adoption will take place on Thursday 14th March 2019. The question will be:
“Do you want Cheshire East Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Knutsford to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”
